After India won the T20I series 2-1 against England in Bangalore, MS Dhoni was honoured with a ‘thank you’ gift by the BCCI in a rather cryptic fashion. A picture was posted on BCCI’s Twitter handle in which all the members of Team India and also the support staff were posing with MS Dhoni in the middle. BCCI also present MS Dhoni a shield which had pictures of all the famous trophies he won as India’s captain.
Dhoni, who batted well throughout the limited-overs series against England, made it clear that he will be available for selection when he announced his decision to step down as India’s captain. But as soon as this picture was shared by BCCI many media houses reported that Dhoni was honoured because he “might” have played his last international match on Indian soil and he will retire after the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 in England. During this period, India only has Bangladesh and Australia to face, that too in the Test format – one against Bangladesh and 4 against Australia – at home.
Here is the picture that was shared by BCCI:

These are just the speculations and MS Dhoni will keep playing for India until ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. BCCI honoured MS Dhoni at the end of England’s tour, because he announced his retirement just before the start of the series, and they wanted to give a thanks giving souvenir to India’s greatest limited-overs captain. Dhoni was also honoured by Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) during the ODI series against England.
