Another match against the Sri Lankans ends with another victory as Virat Kohli’s men complete a dominant tour with a 9-0 win. The Indians were able to stamp their authority early on, with the Test series victory and only looked under threat in the third ODI when Akila Danajaya started causing problems.
Akila Dananjaya bowled the spell of a lifetime as he picked up 6 big scalps but was thwarted in the end by another Dhoni masterclass with Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Kohli’s classy interview:
Even though India won, Virat Kohli was gracious and praised Dananjaya. He said that the Sri Lankan spinner had really bowled out of his skin and was unfortunate not to have won the game for his team. Kohli also added another point by saying that he would have gotten out at any stage of the game as Dananjaya was just in that kind of form.
Kohli certainly would have been hurt considering that he was made to look slightly ordinary by Dananjaya. He went back to the dressing room and would have certainly got the team together to understand how to decode the spinner and the results showed almost immediately.
“Akila bowled an outstanding spell. Even batting at No.3, I would have still gotten out to that delivery. It’s difficult when you haven’t seen the guy but now we will be more careful.
“Credit to him, he capitalized on the hesitation because we were not reading him too well. He attacked the stumps,” Virat Kohli had said.
Re-invented in two days:
In the next match, Kohli ended up smashing a century against the same bowler and this proved that he was never looking to get complacent at any point. Kohli was able to decipher every single puzzle that was thrown his way in the next few matches and this just goes to prove the kind of meticulous preparation that the Indian captain puts into his game.
It is heartening to see how Kohli has become one of the most important players in the team and Indian cricket looks to be in good hands under his captaincy.
