Left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat made a sensational return to Ranji Trophy as the captain ripped through Delhi’s top-order at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium Ground C on Tuesday, January 3. Jaydev Unadkat stole the show with his mesmerizing bowling as he picked up a hat-trick in the first over of the match after Delhi won the toss and elected to bat.
Jaydev went on to complete his 21st 5-wicket haul in just the 2nd over of the match as Delhi was reeling at 5 for 6. Unadkat picked 6 wickets in the first hour of the contest as Delhi was reduced to 10 for 7.
Unadkat, the Saurashtra captain, removed Dhruv Shorey, Vaibhav Rawal, and Yash Dhull off the third, fourth and fifth deliveries of the match. In his 2nd over, Unadkat returned to remove Jonty Sidhu and Lalit Yadav to complete his 5-wicket haul, Delhi was tottering at 5 for 6, with Unadkat’s figures reading: 2-0-5-5. With his sensational spell, Jaydev Unadkat achieved a historic feat as he became the first bowler to pick up a hat-trick in the first over of a Ranji Trophy match.
Unadkat is in the middle of a dream run – both as a captain and as a bowler. Last month, the veteran emerged as the leading wicket-taker for his side Saurashtra during their run to the Vijay Hazare Trophy title. He picked 19 wickets off 10 matches at an economy of 3.33. Riding on his stellar performance in Vijay Hazare Trophy, Unadkar earned a Test recall in Mirpur, where he ended with 3 wickets as team India recorded a 2-0 series win in Bangladesh.
