Ahead of the clash against Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings announced their young opener, Mayank Agarwal, as the stand-in skipper of the team after regular skipper KL Rahul was ruled out due to acute Appendicitis. In his first game as the skipper, Mayank Agarwal led the team from the from responsibly as he played a terrific knock.
Asked to bat first, Mayank Agarwal walked out to open the innings for his team with all-guns-blazing and made his bat do the talking. He gave a powerful performance of 99 runs and smashed the bowlers of Delhi Capitals to all the corners of the ground. His stunning knock was laced with 8 fours and 4 sixes.
He formed a 52-run stand partnership with David Malan for the third wicket before the latter’s dismissal. He soaked in all the pressure and started batting aggressively and took the Delhi bowlers to the cleaners, while wickets kept falling from another end.
He remained unbeaten till the last ball, however, he missed out on his well-deserved century by just one run.
