10 Best Tweets On Rohit Sharma’s ‘Captain’s Innings’ At The No. 3 Position

India had a lead of 4-0 before heading to Mount Maunganui for the last match of the series. In the dead rubber game, the Indian captain Virat Kohli opted to take rest. In Kohli’s absence, India’s vice-captain – Rohit Sharma took the charge for the visitors. India won the toss and opted to bat first. For a change, Rohit didn’t open the inning and decided to bat at on down.
This was only the second instance when Rohit batted at three in his international T20 career. The move was quite understandable because Sanju Samson opened the inning in the previous match, and India wanted to give him one more chance. Well, the stand-in skipper hadn’t to wait much as Samson departed to the pavilion in the second over.
The deck was a bit slow and didn’t look the best for playing lofted shots. Rohit took sufficient time at the beginning of his inning. He played eight dot balls in his first fifteen balls, scoring thirteen runs. The 32-year-old scored just two boundaries in his first 25 deliveries. Rohit scored just 28 runs off his first 25 balls.

However, he did accelerate after spending a fair amount of time on the crease. In the 10th over, Rohit smacked a six against the left-arm spinner Michell Santner – a pressure-releasing-shot. In the next over, he whacked the leg-spinner – Ish Sodhi for a maximum and tried to shift the momentum towards India. The Hitman had arrived!
Rohit then took six singles and rotated the strike – to lessen the dot balls. He hit a four and a six before walking back to the dugout. Rohit didn’t get out but was retired not out. He didn’t look comfortable and was in pain.
Whilst the knock wasn’t a classic Rohit knock, it was a quite good knock. The Mumbaikar came at a non-regular position and adapted to a different role. Also, the deck wasn’t a batting paradise.
