Indian all–rounder Washington Sundar missed out on a well-deserved maiden Test century on Day 3 of the ongoing 4th and last Test against England as team India was bundled out for 365 runs, with a lead of 160 runs.

Washington Sundar, who made his debut for team India in the 4th Test against Australia at Gabba, has impressed one and all with his batting performances. In his debut match, he had scored 62 runs off 144 balls, smashing 7 fours and 1 six.  Later, he was picked in the first Test match against England, where he had scored an unbeaten 85 runs in an innings.

In the ongoing match, Washington walked in to bat on Day 2 when India has left six wickets down for 146 and took the game by storm. He stitched a partnership of 113-runs with Rishabh Pant, who scored a stunning century. After Rishabh Pant was dismissed for 101 runs, Sundar held the match tight and carried on to stitch another partnership with Axar Patel. On Day 3, both the cricketers continued with their partnership and took India’s lead past 150.

After adding 106 runs for the 8th-wicket, Sundar was at the non-striker’s end when Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root together dismissed Axar Patel. However, there were still two wickets and a little hope left as Sundar only needed 4 runs to complete his century.

Ishant Sharma only had to give the strike back to Washington. However, Ben Stokes had other plans as he trapped Ishant with an LBW stunner, and then three balls later, he cleaned up Siraj to end India’s innings. Unlucky Sundar remained unbeaten on 96 runs. His knock was laced with 10 fours and a six.

Meanwhile, as soon as the knock of Washington Sundar came to an end, social media was already flooded with reactions to his knock. From cricketers, experts to fans, everyone took to their social media to applaud the performance of Sundar and express their thoughts on him missing a well-deserved century. There were many who came up with hilarious memes and left everyone in splits.
