Life is not predictable. You never know where you will end up. Similarly, in the sport of cricket there have been some players who pursued some other profession before they switched to cricket. In this article, we list some of the top cricketers an their past professions.

MS Dhoni – Ticket Collector




The Indian captain, MS Dhoni was once a TTE or a ticket collector at the Kharagpur railway station before he decided to play cricket. It is widely known that he also played football in his school days. Well, we are glad that he played cricket. What a journey it has been for him!

Brad Hodge – Petrol Pump employee

The Australian batsman once worked as a petrol pump employee in Australia. In the last IPL season, he coached the Gujarat Lions and plays across the T20 leagues as a T20 specialist batsman.

Dwayne Leverock- Policeman

Remembered for that brilliant slip catch against India in the 2007 Cricket World cup, Dwayne Leverock was a policeman before he played cricket. He used to drive the police van.

Nathan Lyon- ground Staff

The Aussie spinner was once a part of the ground staff at Adelaide. He then started his career as an off-spinner. Today, he is one of the leading spinners in Australia and is a regular member in the national Test Team.

Dipak Chudasma- Table Tennis player

The former Kenya cricketer also played table tennis at various levels.

Mohammed Tauqir- Banker

The UAE player, Mohammed Tauqir represented UAE and continues to work as a banker when he is not plying the sport.

Joe Dawes – Policeman

Dawes was once an undercover officer for the Australian police force. Later, he represented Australia as a fast bowler.

AB De Villiers

Well. we do not need a description for this man, do we? He has played various sports including hockey, badminton etc. and has been a national swimming champion.  Indeed. he is multi-talented.
