The anticipation and excitement regarding the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League have been increasing day by day among the fans. Meanwhile, ahead of the league, the sponsor for this year’s league has become one of the most discussed topics on social media.
Well, if you aren’t aware then we should tell you, that the BCCI had signed a 5-year-old contract with the Chinese firm VIVO for the sponsorship of IPL in 2018. However, owing to the sentiments of the country towards China, Vivo decided to withdraw from the contract for this year and the value of the 5-year old was a whopping INR 2199 crores.
Now since VIVO has backed out of IPL 2020, the BCCI has been in search of a new sponsor, many companies including Coca-cola, Jio, Amazon, etc have been linked with the latest IPL 2020 contract.
Interestingly, Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali Ayurved has come out in public and declared that they would also bid for the sponsorship title of this year. The spokesperson of the company, SK Tijarawala said:
“We are considering the IPL title sponsorship for this year, since we want to give the Patanjali brand a global marketing platform,”
He added:
“This is for Vocal For Local and making one Indian brand as global, this is the right platform. We are considering into that perspective,”
“We have to take a final decision, whether we would take it or not,” Tijarawala added.
Talking about the same, the brand strategist Harish Bijoor said as per the report.
“Patanjali as a title sponsor for IPL will do more for Patanjali than for IPL. While the caste hierarchy among brands could play out, Patanjali owning the title sponsorship would be contextual from a nationalist perspective, since there is an enormous anti-China sentiment prevailing in the country,”
