Team India’s first innings at Headingley Cricket Ground, in the ongoing 3rd Test match, turned out to be disastrous. Nothing went right for team India from the word go. James Anderson set the tone right from the first over itself as he dismissed KL Rahul. The veteran pacer put on an exhibition of some great swing bowling to get rid of India’s Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara and the big fish Virat Kohli without letting them trouble the scoreboard much.
At 21/3 things started to look jittery for the Indian side but Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane settle the nerves and tried their best to bring back the much-needed momentum to the game. Both of them looked rock solid in defense as they tackled the dangerous spell by the England bowlers. However, just when the fans felt that things will get better from now, it became worse. Ollie Robinson managed to get rid of Ajinkya Rahane at the stroke of lunch.
After lunch, the England cricket team continued with their red-hot form as they dismissed Rishabh Pant, who poked at a harmless delivery only to edge it. On the other hand, Rohit also succumbed to pressure eventually throwing away his wicket after making a good start once again. Rohit played 105 balls with patience, however, all his hard work went into the drain after he threw his wicket with his favorite pull shot. He was dismissed after scoring only 19 runs, which was also the highest score from the Indian side.
India lost four wickets in the gap of six balls with Overton and Sam Curran striking twice each off successive balls. Thanks to the 11-run partnership between Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Siraj, the Indian side scored 78 runs losing their last seven wickets for just 22 runs.
Meanwhile, fans on social media were left disappointed with the poor batting performance of the Indian side. From fans to experts, everyone took to their Twitter to express their anger and disappointment with the performance of team India.
