The game of cricket has seen some of the biggest giants to have played the game. Here are some of the tallest players to have played the game since 2000:
Mohammad Irfan:
The Pakistani giant of a fast bowler clocks in at 7’1’’ and can really intimidate batsmen with his size. He bowls at 140 clicks and can generate easy bounce off the pitch thanks to his height. He has been in and out of the squad due to form however.
Peter George:
An Australian right-arm fast-medium bowler, Peter George used to play first class cricket for the Southern Redbacks. He also played one test match for Australia. He used to walk in at a height of 6’8’’ and trouble batsmen.
Chris Tremlett:
The English bowler with a height of 6’7’’ is most famous for picking up a first ball wicket in his first class cricket career back in 2000. He has played a few matches for England but has found himself out because of injuries more than form. He is also a handy 8 or 9 batsman with seven first-class fifties to his name.
Steven Finn:
Another English giant fast bowler, Steven Finn was the youngest debutant for Middlesex County Cricket at the age of 16. At 6’7’’ he has troubled the world’s best batsmen with his sudden bouncing deliveries in any pitch.
Suleiman Benn:
The lanky West Indian spinner is one of those rare bowlers who spins despite being a good 6’7’’ in height. He plays his first class cricket for Barbados and is probably the tallest bowler to have every played the game.
Tom Moody:
The 1999 World Cup winning wicketkeeper is another one who used to have the extra advantage of height. At 6’7’’, he was a giant and could intimidate batsmen from behind the stumps by being chirpy.
Peter Fulton:
The New Zealander is called “two meter Peter” for good reason. Thanks to his very tall frame of around 6’6.75’’, Fulton is one of the only tallest batsmen to have played the game. The rest were mostly bowlers but it was hard to bounce Fulton out.
Jacob Oram:
Another “Gentle Giant”, Jacob Oram was a burly bowler at 6’6’’ who could get some nice purchase and height from even dead tracks. His all-round abilities made him an asset to any team that he played in.
Morne Morkel:
The South African with some scary pace, Morne Morkel could also intimidate you with that 6’5’’ height. Morkel is still one of SA’s premier fast bowlers and can be deadly on tracks that are swinging.
Kieron Pollard:
One of the biggest hitters the game has ever seen, Pollard generates most of that power thanks to his 6’5’’ frame. He is a star attraction at T20 leagues all over the world and for good reason.
