There was a time, not too long ago when any world cricketing event wouldn’t pass you without Australia being regarded as favourites.
However,in the ICC World T-20,the favourites tag doesn’t sit comfortably with the Wizard of Oz.They lost in the Semi-Finals of the 2007edition to India in Durban and didnot even qualify for the super 8’s in the 2009 edition in England. In 2010, the Micheal Clarke led side lost a one-sided final in Barbados and in 2012 they ran into an inspired West Indies in the Semi-Finals in Colombo.
The Squad is full of experienced players capable of changing the game any time in their favour.Openers Aaron Finch and David Warner are in ominous touch followed by Seniors Shane Watson and Brad Hodge.Captain George Bailey is the main stay in the middle-order.Glen Maxwell and Brad Haddin follows next.All-Rounder James Faulkner could be the player to watch out for.Veteran and the most aged player in the tournament is Hogg, the left-arm chinaman bowler can be a threat to the batsmen.
Their only bad news coming into this T-20 World Cup is the injury of fearsome fast bowler Johnson. But Youngsters Mitchell Starc and Doug Bollinger have to take up the added responsibity.
The 5th edition of the event, here in Bangladesh could turn out to different to their past fortunes. The Aussies are not strangers any more to Sub-Continental conditions ,thanks to frequent international visits to India and their stints in the IPL.Their Balance outfit gives them a massive chance to clinch the lone trophy that’s missing from their cabinet.
