IPL 7: Analysing Chennai Super Kings’ Squad

It can be easily said that Chennai Super Kings will always remain one of the firm favourites to win the title, atleast for the coming few  years. After a taunting defeat against MI in the previous year final, and following a controversial fixing allegation against the owners, the team will be raring to go and win it for their fans.

The 2 time champions retained their core team consisting of M S Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Suresh Raina, R Ashwin and Dwayne Bravo. And used their “right to match” card on F Du Plessis. Other than that, some of the more prolific international buys include the likes of Brendon McCullum, Dwayne Smith, in-form Samuel Badree. The Indian players bought by the CSK includes Mohit Sharma, Ashish Nehra and Mithun Manhas.

Evidently, CSK has chosen  to rely more on international experience over local talent. But still they have the local youths like Baba Aparjith, Vijay Shankar and many more.

Just like their previous year, the team centers around the likes of Dhoni and Raina, and one can expect another good performance from them.

Key Players

M S Dhoni : How can we not say that the Indian captain is not one of the key players of CSK? He is one of the most decorated captain in the world presently, and his match finishing skills are something which is quite out of the world. Though his form has been patchy for quite some time, due to lack of on-field experience, any bowler will be wary of him.

Dwayne Bravo : The West Indian all-rounder is one of the most underrated cricketers, especially in this format. His change of pace makes him a very dangerous bowler, and at the same time he is quite a big hitter coming down the order. Watch out for him, teams!

Suresh Raina : A prodigy who is slowly establishing himself as a senior in the Indian team, Suresh Raina is maturing into a world class player. After facing criticism on his inability to play the short balls, he came back with a bang in the recently- concluded ICC World T20. Being one of the most consistent players in the tournament, the highest run-scorer in IPL would like to have an another good year.

Young-gun to watch-out for

Baba Aparjith has been quite for some time since his exploits in the U-19 circuit. But he has the motive to be back in the news by coming up with some strong performances.
