World Cup 2015: Can Cameron White force his way into the squad?

Australia are one of the strongest contenders for the 2015 World Cup. They have a very well-balanced side and the home advantage will play a very crucial role. While Australia have a good pool of fast bowlers to chose from, their batting, especially the middle-order, still remains a thing to worry about. In the last 12 months or so, Australia have tried many combinations in their batting order, but they have not yet come anywhere close to picking the final one.

In the third and final T20I match between Australia and South Africa, Cameron White, who has been away from Australia’s ODI unit since a very long time, played a very crucial knock of 41 not out from 31 balls, and helped Australia win the final of the T20I series against the Proteas.

Cameron White, who last played an ODI match in 2011, has worked very hard on his batting in the last 12 months or so. White played as an opener in the last season of KFC Big Bash League (BBL) for the Melbourne Stars, and it’s the confidence gained from opening the innings, that has put him back in contention for a place in Australia’s ODI squad, for the 2015 World Cup.

“Over the last 12 months (I’ve) opened the batting in T20 a bit,” Cameron White said following Sunday’s win at Sydney’s Stadium Australia.

White is now confident of batting anywhere in Australia’s batting order, as opening the batting for Melbourne Stars in the BBL has given him a lot of confidence.

Cameron White is a very clean hitter of the cricket ball and he has the potential of finishing the matches single-handedly on his day.

White, who believes he has a chance of making a comeback to Australia’s ODI squad, is also aware of the fact that with so many young batsmen pushing each other for a spot in the batting order, it is not going to be an easy ride for him.

“(You have) just got to keep making as many runs as you can, be in form when the squad’s picked and hopefully I’m a chance,” Cameron White said following Sunday’s win at Sydney’s Stadium Australia.

Cameron White has played 87 One Day International (ODI) matches for Australia, and he has scored 2037 runs at an average of 35.12.
