India’s tour of Australia 2014-15 is one of the most awaited fixtures of the year. The young Indian team has challenged the mighty Aussies in their own backyard. This young Indian led by Virat Kohli, who will be leading the troop in the first Test in the absence of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, is a bunch of confident players who want to prove a point before the World Cup 2015, which will be played in Australia and New Zealand.

Australia are a very difficult side to beat in their home conditions. On the other hand, India have always been considered as a soft target whenever they travel outside the sub-continent, specially in Test cricket. The last time India toured Australia, they were thrashed and whit-washed mercilessly by the Aussies. This time, the Australian team isn’t in the best frame of mind after the tragic demise of their teammate Phillip Hughes. But, the Australians are known for their professionalism and you expect them to be at their best as soon as they take the field.

India’s record in Australia (in Test cricket) in nothing short of abysmal. Since 1947, India have played 40 Test matches in Australia, out of which they have managed to win only 5. Australia have won 26 and 9 matches have ended as draw. The table below lists year-wise results of the Test matches played between Australia and India, in Australia.

2007-08 4 1 2 1 0 Australia
2011-12 4 0 4 0 0 Australia

It is clearly visible that India’s record in Australia is very demoralizing as far as Indian cricket fans are concerned. India’s record in Australia in Test cricket is only 12.5%. They have never won a Test series in Australia. This series will be a very big test for the young India team. But, having said this, they will back themselves to give a tough fight to Aussies.
