The most expensive buy in the history of the tournament, Yuvraj Singh has been bought for a whopping 16 crores by the Delhi Daredevils franchise. His availability for the entire tournament coupled with his all round skills has made him a prized catch for the Delhi outfit.
2. Yuvraj Singh (2014): 14 crores INR
The man from Punjab made it to the top of the most expensive buys again after the Royal Challengers Bangalore availed the rights to his services for the 7th season for a massive 14 crores.
3. Dinesh Karthik (2014): 12.5 crores INR
The talented wicket-keeper batsman was picked up by the Delhi Daredevils for 12.5 crores, making him the 3rd most expensive buy in the history of the IPL. However he could not live up to the expectations from his price tag.
4. Gautam Gambhir (2011): 11 crores INR
Gautam Gambhir was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders for a sum of 11 crore rupees. He was immediately made the captain of the team and the results were imminent as under Gambhir’s captaincy KKR reached the semi-finals for the first time in 2011, went on to win the IPL in 2012 and 2014.
5. Yusuf Pathan (2011): $2.1 million
Close to Gautam Gambhir in 5th place is Yusuf Pathan snapped by the Kolkata franchise for $2.1 million. He was the man who had a big role to play when The Rajasthan Royals lifted the trophy in the inaugural season and hence his price was justified.
6. Robin Uthappa (2011): $2.1 million
The man from Karnataka was bought by the newly inducted Pune Warriors for a sum of $2.1 million. He was picked on the basis of his prowess with the bat and wicketkeeping ability.
7. Rohit Sharma (2011): $2 million
On the 7th place is the Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma who was snapped by the Ambani led franchise for $2 million. He lived upto his price and was appointed captain leading the team to an IPL & CLT20 double.
8. Ravindra Jadeja (2012): $2 million
One of the by products from the Shane Warne led Rajasthan Royals, Ravindra Jadeja was bought by the Chennai Super Kings for a sum of $ 2 million. He has proved very effective for the yellow brigade with his handy left arm spinners and swashbuckling batting. Not to forget his brilliance on the field.
9. Yusuf Pathan (2011): $1.9 million
The hard-hitting all-rounder from Baroda was bought for a $1.9 million by the Delhi Daredevils. Deemed to have the required skills to excel in this form of the game, Pathan is a very useful bowler with his left arm swingers and can be a very dangerous batsman on his day.
10. Yuvraj Singh (2011): $1.8 million
For a record third time in the list Yuvraj Singh was bought by the Pune Warriors for $1.8 million. He was made the captain of the team and led the Pune outfit in its inaugural IPL season.
