India’s fast bowler Ishant Sharma failed the fitness test held on February 7, 2015, just a week before the ICC World Cup 2015 is scheduled to begin in Australia and New Zealand. India face Pakistan in their opening encounter, but could do so without the services of Ishant.
Some reports are suggesting that Ishant will be replaced by Mohit Sharma, who made an appearance in the 6th ODI of the recently concluded Carlton MID tri-series.
Ishant Sharma has been struggling to regain his fitness, and he didn’t participate in the tri-series, as he has been undergoing treatment Down Under. . Though he was training, he failed to get fit in time for the fitness test. As a result his chances of playing in the World Cup 2015 are almost over, NDTV reported. The fact that Bhuvneshwar Kumar is also unfit has only added to India’s woes. Dhawal Kulkarni has been asked to stay on in Australia, and could replace Bhuvneshwar if the Indian seamer is also unfit.
India will begin their World Cup 2015 campaign with an intense encounter against the arch-rivals Pakistan. With Ishant Sharma ruled out and Bhuvneshwar Kumar still unfit, Pakistan will fancy their chances against India’s inexperienced bowling attack.
