It is Sachin Tendulkar’s birthday today. Sachin, who is also known as God of Cricket, is the most loved cricketer in India. Here, we look at some of the lesser known facts about the Little Master that every fan must know:
1) Sachin Tendulkar fielded for Pakistan as a substitute during a one-day practice match against India at the Brabourne Stadium in 1988.
2) Sachin Tendulkar Aspired To Be A Fast Bowler, Ended Up Being A Batsman
Sachin Tendulkar wanted to be a fast bowler. As an aspiring cricketer, he attended the MRF Pace Academy which was run by the Australian fast bowler Dennis Lillee. Lilee wasn’t impressed by Tendulkar’s fast bowling skills, but he was impressed with his batting. Now, just imagine if Sachin was a fast bowler.
3) Sachin Tendulkar used to walk in his sleep
Sachin Tendulkar was Sourav Ganguly’s roommate at the MRF Pace Academy. Tendulkar used to walk in his sleep. Ganguly got worried about it and couldn’t sleep at night. Ganguly has shared this incident so many teams and this always brings a smile on his and Sachin’s face.
4) Sachin Tendulkar’s wife Anjali Tendulkar first entered his house as a journalist
The first time Anjali went to Sachin’s house she went as a journalist. The little master told Anjali: “You are a girl how can you come to my house?” Anjali somehow entered the house, but she entered as a journalist.
5) Sachin Tendulkar’s passion and love for the game
In 2008, Sachin Tendulkar was adviced 10-weeks rest following back to back surgeries. But the Little Master recovered in six weeks and scored tons of runs thereafter. This was because of Sachin’s passion for the game and the amount of hard work he did to make a comeback.
6) The God of Cricket
Once Sachin met a group of disabled children in Chennai. One of them was Sachin’s biggest fan but he had never walked in his life. On seeing him Sachin told him if he’d like to play cricket with him. The child was so happy that he stood up for the first time ever. God of Cricket!
