India’s young middle-order batsman Karun Nair became only the third Indian batsman to convert his maiden Test hundred into na double-hundred. Nair, who came in to bat at no. 5, batted brilliantly with KL Rahul and formed a good partnership for the fourth wicket.
Karun Nair has a reputation of scoring big hundreds at the domestic level and he did no harm to it by converting his maiden Test hundred into a big double hundred.
Karun Nair came in as a replacement for Ajinkya Rahane but now, after this knock, there will be a lot of pressure on captain Virat Kohli and coach Anil Kumble. Rahane is India’s vice-captain in Test cricket and he will make his way into the playing XI the moment he is declared fit. Nair, with this double hundred, has sent a very strong message to his captain, coach and selectors that he has a big appetite for runs in Test cricket. Nair’s knock will also put pressure on Rohit Sharma because the no. 6 spot in India’s batting line-up in Test cricket has very tough competition now.
