5 Most Successful Captains In IPL History

IPL 2017: Indian Premier League (IPL) is one of the most exciting sporting tournaments to watch. It started in 2008 and we are celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. In these 10 years, we have seen many youngsters grow into modern day stalwarts of the game. We have also seen some of the legends enjoying themselves and getting back on the field after their retirement from international cricket.

In this post, Vaibhav Sharma looks at some of the most successful captains in IPL history.

1) MS Dhoni 

MS Dhoni has captained two sides in IPL; Chennai Super Kings and Rising Pune Supergiant. Under his leadership his team has won 83 games and lost 59 matches. Dhoni’s win percentage is 58.45.

2) Gautam Gambhir 

Gautam Gambhir started his career with Delhi Daredevils but he later moved to Kolkata Knight Riders ( KKR) after first three season. Gambhir was immediately given the responsibility to lead KKR and he is now regarded as one of the best captains in tournament’s history. Gambhir has led his teams in 112 IPL matches, won 65 and lost 46 of them at a win percentage of 58.48, which is slightly better than Dhoni.

3) Rohit Sharma 

Rohit Sharma started his IPL career with Deccan Chargers but he is now the captain of one of the most successful franchises, Mumbai Indians. Rohit has led Mumbai Indians in 63 matches and he has tasted victory in 38 of them. His win percentage is 60.31.

4) Virat Kohli 

Virat Kohli is one of the most aggressive captains in world cricket. He plays a very flamboyant brand of cricket and gives confidence to his players to play their natural game. In IPL. Kohli has led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 75 matches so far. Out of these, he has won 37 matches and lost 33. Kohli’s win percentage is 52.77.

5) Adam Glichrist 

Former Aussie wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Glichrist is regarded as one of the most destructive batsmen in the history of the game. In his IPL career, led his side in 74 matches. Off these, his team won 35 while lost 39. Gilchrist’s win per cent in the IPL was 47.29.
