Yesterday, as the Kolkata Knight Riders secured a 10-wicket victory over the Gujarat lions, openers Chris Lynn and Gautam Gambhir shattered some all-time IPL records. Both Gambhir and Lynn were in supreme form as they demolished the Gujarat Lions bowlers. Lynn scored an amazing 93 off 41 balls while Gambhir was not out on 76 off 48 deliveries.
Captain Gambhir and Lynn’s 184-run stand is now the highest opening partnership in the history of the IPL, surpassing the previous best of 167 put together by Chris Gayle and Tillakaratne Dilshan against the Pune Warriors in 2013 edition of the Indian Premiere League.
As Lynn reached his fifty in just 19 balls, Gambhir brought up his half-century in 33 balls.
The pair reached the 100-run mark in 7.4 overs. This was also the 4th fastest hundred by an opening pair in the history of the IPL. Soon, they reached the 150-mark at the end of just 12.3 overs.
Not only was it KKR’s first-ever 10 wicket win in the IPL, but also the highest total chased down without losing a wicket in all T20 competitions.
