IPL 2017: New Zealand all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme has been announced as a replacement for Andre Russell by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for IPL 2017. Russell, who is serving a one year ban for violating his doping whereabouts clause, played a crucial role for KKR in the last season and he will be missed dearly by the Purple army.
De Grandhomme, who made his Test debut in 2016 and ODI debut in 2012, has featured in six Tests, nine ODIs and eight T20Is for New Zealand. Grandhomme was born in Zimbabwe and he played his first Test against Pakistan, in which he took a six-wicket haul in the first innings.
When KKR’s captain Gautam Gambhir was asked about Andre Russell’s absence, this is what he said:
“There are two ways to look at such situations in life. Either we can see Russell’s absence as a challenge or look at it as an opportunity in bold letters. I as an individual, and KKR as a group, are looking it as an opportunity”.
