IPL 2017: Former West Indies Skipper Joins KXIP Camp

Former West Indies captain Darren Sammy has finally joined the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) for the remaining matches of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017. Sammy, who led West Indies to 2 T20 World Cup titles, was bought for INR 30 lakh in the auction by KXIP franchise. During the early part of March, the hard-hitter turned out for Hung Hom Jaguars in the Hong Kong Twenty20 Blitz.

Sammy did not take part in the first half of the tournament and KXIP didn’t provide any reason for his unavailability and it remains a mystery for the fans. Sammy is a seasoned campaigner and he brings lots of positivity and good energy with himself.

KXIP have had a roller coaster form in the tournament and they would be hoping to win more matches to seal their place for the play offs. Sammy is a veteran of T20 cricket with 242 matches to his credit. He has played in many domestic T20 leagues around the world and performed well for his franchises.

A spot in the playing XI is up for grabs for Sammy as Marcus Stoinis has not managed to impress with both, bat and ball. On Friday, Kings XI will play for the first time in their home venue, Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium at Mohali, and it would be interesting to see whether Darren Sammy gets a place in KXIP’s playing XI or not.
