IPL 2017: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) bowler Tabraiz Shamsi, who made his ODI debut for South Africa in January last year, has announced that he will leave the ongoing tenth edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) midway and return back home.
“Really sad to be leaving India. People in India have been really awesome. Lots of love and support, and hopefully I can be back next year for the IPL. I really appreciate the passion people have here. Can’t thank the guys of Bengaluru enough. Going to miss this place a lot”, Shamsi said.
Shamsi didn’t feature in any of the games for RCB in IPL 2017. He faced tough competition from West Indies Samuel Badree who has done exceptionally well for RCB with the new ball in the season so far. In last year’s IPL, Shamsi played 4 matches for RCB and took 3 wickets. His ‘bus-driver’ celebration became a big hit among the Indian cricket fans.
It hasn’t been a very good month for Shamsi as he wasn’t named in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 squad for South Africa, with the selectors preferring the uncapped Keshav Maharaj over him.
His departure won’t make that a big difference to RCB as they are unlikely to qualify for the play-offs. RCB’s star-studded batted line-up failed to live up to the expectations. In one of the matches against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), RCB got all out for just 49 runs and it is now the lowest team total in the history of Indian Premier League.
