IPL 2017: This Is How Virender Sehwag Gave Ishant Sharma Kings XI Punjab Lifeline

IPL 2017: India’s fast bowler Ishant Sharma, who went unsold in the Indian Premier League 2017 (IPL 2017) auction, has finally been picked by Kings XI Punjab as Murali Vijay’s replacement. Vijay injured his shoulder during the Test series against Australia and he has been advised to rest his shoulder.

Ishant was impressive in the third Test, in which he troubled the Australian batsmen with his pace and bounce. Kings XI Punjab’s mentor Virender Sehwag, who played a lot of his cricket for Delhi and India with Ishant Sharma, was commenting during the Test series and when Vijay was ruled out for the tournament, he quickly dialled Ishant’s number and gave him a much-needed IPL contract.

This is what Ishant Sharma said after he was picked by Kings XI Punjab for IPL 2017:

“A couple of days back, Viru bhai called up and asked if I am free. That’s how it worked out,” Ishant was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

“I was not in a holiday mode. I was planning to play county cricket and was in search of a contract. In fact, when you don’t get a team at IPL auction, you have to play somewhere,” said the Delhi lad.

Sehwag welcomed Ishant Sharma to Kings XI Punjab is his trademark style on Twitter.

Ishant also took it in the right spirit and made a request to Virender Sehwag.

But, as always, Virender Sehwag had the last word.
