IPL: MS Dhoni is one of the best players in Indian Premier League (IPL) history. He started his career as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain but after the franchise was banned by IPL governing committee for two years, Dhoni was bought by Rising Pune Supergiant and he captained them in the ninth season. However, in the ongoing tenth season of IPL, Dhoni was sacked as captain by RPS franchise and now he plays for them as a wicketkeeper-batsman.
Recently, some media reports suggested that MS Dhoni will move back to CSK next year when the famous ‘yellow’ franchise will make a comeback in the tournament after a gap of two years. But, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) principle owner Shah Rukh Khan has said that he is willing to sell his pyjama to buy MS Dhoni, if the former Indian captain comes into auction.
“Yaar main toh usko apna Pajama bech ke bhi kharid lun, wo Aaye toh auction mein,” (I am willing to buy Dhoni even if it means selling off my pants, but he never goes under the hammer in IPL auctions),” SRK was quoted as saying by Sportswallah.
It is very difficult to say what MS Dhoni will opt for next year. Will he continue with RPS or will he move to CSK? It is also possible that MS Dhoni comes into auction next year and let the market forces decide his future. It’s all very exciting. Dhoni is still one of the best finishers in the world and he proved in RPS’ last match against Sun Risers Hyderabad (SRH), in which he played a match-winning knock of 61 unbeaten runs off just 34 balls. In his trademark style, Dhoni finished the match with a boundary when he team needed 2 runs to win off the last ball.
Our take: Like many other franchise owners, SRK wants Dhoni in his side, but isn’t looking likely. It is almost certain that Dhoni will head back to CSK next year because the amount love people of Chennai have for him is unparalleled.
