Former Australian captain Michael Clarke has recently named the tow biggest weapons for Team India going into the Champions Trophy 2017. Clarke thinks that the spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja will be the key weapons for the Virat Kohli-led Indian team in the Champions Trophy that will take place in England this June.
“Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin are going to be two huge weapons for India in England depending on the weather conditions there. If they are getting good summer, the wickets will be dry and I think spin will play a part. Even if it swings there, I think India have got quality fast bowlers whom they can utilise,” Clarke told India Today.
Ravindra Jadeja and Ashwin are both very good all-rounders for India and they have proved it in the past. in the last Champions Trophy, they both performed very well for India.
Talking about the batting line up, Clarke says captain Kohli is a “no brainer” at number three and believes that Yuvraj has earned his position at 4.
“No brainer at No.3… Virat Kohli as captain, Yuvraj Singh at No.4. I think Yuvraj has earned his place, he is experienced. I would go with MS Dhoni at No.5. He is experienced and he’s still the best keeper in the Indian team. At No.6, I would pick Manish Pandey and then Kedar Jadhav at No.7.”
When it comes to the bowling department, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar will play a crucial role in English conditions. The medium pacer can swing it both ways and get early wickets for India. Kumar is in good rhythm with the ball in the ongoing IPL and has picked up 15 wickets so far.
Along with him, Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami will fir in given that they are injury free.
