Mumbai Indians ended the league stage of IPL 2017 on a high note after they overcame a spirited Kolkata Knight Riders team by 9 runs at Eden Gardens. The result also ensured Mumbai Indians top the group stages with an overall points tally of 20 points.
Having made 6 changes to their starting line-up, Mumbai battled hard to post a target of 173 on the board. Put in to bat first, they lost the inform Lendl Simmons for a duck but half-centuries from Saurabh Tiwari and Ambati Rayudu enabled Mumbai to post a respectable target of 173. They forged a partnership of 61 runs in 7.4 overs before Tiwari succumbed to some very sluggish running. In the 15th over of the match, Ambati Rayadu mistimed a pull of Umesh Yadav to short mid-on and took off for an easy single. But Saurabh Tiwari made a mess out of it and was too slow to react.
In fact Rayudu was half way down the pitch when Tiwari took off. This gave an easy chance to Umesh, who had the presence of mind to pick the ball and run all the way up to the striker’s end and dislodge the bails. With four overs to go, that’s not the way.” Watch the video here:
