Catches, as they say, win matches. There are numerous occasions on which batsmen got dropped early in their innings and went on to score big scores. Something similar happened on Day 1 of the first Test match of the ongoing three-match series, when Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan was dropped early on in his innings and he went on to score 190 runs.
Dhawan was looking in very good touch and looking to hit some quick runs. He smashed Lahiru Kumara for two boundaries in three balls and was lucky not to get dismisses in the same over when he slashed hard at the final delivery and Gunaratne dropped the catch at second slip.
The dropped catch turned out to be a big loss for Sri Lanka as Asela Gunaratne who dropped the catch a catch fractured his finger and subsequently got ruled out of the entire Test. Watch the incident here:
