Suresh Raina and Robin Uthappa Will Play For World XI

The charity game between Sri Lanka XI and World XI, which was scheduled to take place after the the upcoming T20I series between India and Sri Lanka, has been postponed, according to report published by Wisden India.

“A couple of key players like Mahela Jayawardena and Kumar Sangakkara are also not available on this date, so we felt that we could afford to wait a while and play this game at a more conducive time,” Ashley De Silva, CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket, said.

This match was scheduled to take place two days after the T20I series, with the teams comprising of both contemporary and retired players. The main purpose behind this game is to raise funds for victims of the recent floods and also those suffering from chronic kidney diseases in Sri Lanka.

It is noteworthy that this World XI team will be different from ICC’s World XI the one which play a match in Pakistan.

As far as the players are concerned, the finally has not been released yet, but according to some media reports, the out of favour Indian trio of Suresh Raina, Yusuf Pathan and Robin Uthappa have confirmed their participation.

Shahid Afridi, Misbah-ul-Haq, Abdul Razzaq, JP Duminy, Farhaan Behardien, Luke Ronchi, Tymal Mills and Graeme Cremer will also be a part of this World XI.

“I must extend my sincere thanks to the players who confirmed their participation – Robin Uthappa, Suresh Raina and Yusuf Pathan (India), Shahid Afridi, Misbah-ul-Haq and Abdul Razzaq (Pakistan), Tymal Mills (England), Graeme Cremer (Zimbabwe), Luke Ronchi (New Zealand), JP Duminy and Farhaan Behardien (South Africa) amongst others, as well the respective Boards for the support extended,” de Silva said.
