It is being reported that a few Indian cricketers will be rested for the upcoming One Day International (ODI) series against Sri Lanka. Indian cricket team has played continuous cricket, across all three formats, in the last 12 months and there is still of lot of cricket to be played in 2017.
Keeping the workload in mind, it is being reported that some of the players might be rested.
While some of the regular members of the squad will be rested, it will be an opportunity for someone like Suresh Raina, who has been working extremely hard on his fitness and game. Presently, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni, Jasprit Bumrah and few other cricketers are sweating it out at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) to prove their fitness ahead of the busy limited-overs schedule.
Not long ago, Suresh Raina was a very important member of the Indian cricket team in limited-overs cricket, but due to very tight competition for batting spots, he hasn’t be able to make a strong comeback to international cricket.
But, having said that, he is working extremely hard and was one of the leading run scorers in the tenth edition of the Indian Premier League, in which he captained The Gujarat Lions.
It will be interesting to see how the Indian selectors will look at the ODI series against Sri Lanka and make their moves. While it is almost certain that a few big names will be rested but who will replace them is the biggest question.
If our sources are to believed, Suresh Raina is all set to make a comeback to international cricket. He might not be a part of the ODI team, but he is likely to get a spot in the squad for one-off T20I against Sri Lanka.
Suresh Raina has played 223 one-day international matches for India and his 192 innings, and scored 5568 runs including five centuries. He has accumulated his runs at an average of 35.46 and a strike rate of 93.76.
