This Is Why The Selectors Cannot Ignore Suresh Raina For Very Long

Suresh Raina has been ignored for a while by the selectors for his form and fitness. But after Suresh Raina’s scintillating performances in the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy put up a great contention for his place to the Indian side.

Suresh Raina is now the batsman with most T20 runs for India and two back to back staggering knocks for his team in the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy speak for his form. Raina first hit a brilliant century of just 49 balls against Bengal and the very next day he followed it with a great knock of 61 runs.

Suresh Raina last played an ODI for India in 2015 and his last T20I appearance for India came in February 2017 but now with the way he has been performing, the sublime touch he seems in can the selectors ignore him for his current form?

India has been experimenting with the lower middle order for about a year now. Different batsmen have been tried repeatedly but no one has really claimed or cemented their place. The likes of Dinesh Karthik, Manish Pandey, Kedhar Jadhav have been tried ahead of Suresh Raina but none of them has really owned their place in the Indian side for limited overs.

So, in such a scenario when no one else has performed exceptionally for India in the lower middle order and how Suresh Raina has been performing consistently in domestic cricket, doesn’t it set the stage for his comeback. Isn’t this the perfect time for Suresh Raina’s comeback given the vast experience he holds.

Suresh Raina would add immensely to India’s chances in the 2019 World Cup but before that he needs to get a few games for India and he deserves a comeback. At this point in time, he looks the most suitable option for India in the lower middle order.
