In what comes as a big blow to the team, Bangladesh’s premier player, Shakib Al Hasan has been ruled out from the Nidahas Trophy owing to an injury. Shakib Al Hasan sustained a finger injury at the start of this year and would not be recovering in time even though he was named in the squad for Bangladesh. Now, this would largely impact Bangladesh’s chances to lift the Nidahas trophy.
The Nidahas trophy is being played in Sri Lanka to commemorate 70 years of independence of the island nation. The T20 tri-series will be played between India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh between 6th March and 18th March. Now in absence of Shakib Al Hasan, it would be Mahmudullah who would be at the helm of the team. Earlier we also say Angelo Mathews of Sri Lanka being ruled out from the series having sustained a calf injury during training.
Now the injury woes have come haunting the Bangladesh team and they would be shattered by it. Shakib Al Hasan is a high utility player and an amazing all-rounder. His absence would cost Bangladesh dearly.
As for India, with senior players being rested and Rohit Sharma leading a young side, India would hope to win the trophy with ease. The likes of Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah have been rested after a long tour of South Africa.
It’s a great opportunity for the youngsters to prove their calibre and we look forward to exciting battles already.
