While India was cited as the favourite to lift the Nidahas Trophy, their first fixture in the tournament told a different story. In the first game of the tournament played between India and Sri Lanka, India was made to taste defeat by the hosts.
ANOTHER DUCK BY CAPTAIN ROHIT SHARMA
Rohit Sharma would have wanted to lead from the front in the Nidahas Trophy since he has been appointed as the skipper in the absence of Virat Kohli. He must have also been hopeful of bringing an end to the patchy form he had in South Africa but that was not to be. Rohit Sharma got out for a duck and that dug the grave for troubles.
SHIKHAR DHAWAN: THE LONE WARRIOR IN BATTING
Sri Lanka ended up winning by 5 wickets after India posted a moderate total of 174 batting first. India’s batting was a tale of failures besides a great knock of 90 runs by Shikhar Dhawan. While skipper Rohit Sharma went for a duck in the first over itself, Suresh Raina scored just 1. Then the slow inning of Rishabh Pant saw India falling short of the total they would have fancied.
BOWLERS WENT FOR PLENTY
The match ended in the 19th over only as the hosts swiftly chased the target. India bowlers went for ample runs and they made sure that the Sri Lankans feel no pressure whatsoever in chasing down this total.

SHARDUL THAKUR THE MOST EXPENSIVE OF ALL
Shardul Thakur was the most expensive of all Indian bowlers and conceded 42 from just 3.3 overs while Jaydev Unadakat went for 35 from his 3 overs. It was a sheer mess of a bowling performance by India in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Washington Sundar and Yuzvendra Chahal picked up 2 wickets each and held things back a little but that did not prove out to be enough to curtail Sri Lanka.

Even the most staunchest Indian fan should stand up and applaud Perera's knock- such clean hitting. Lanka deserve this win #IndvSL
