Delhi Pulls Off Huge Surprise, Ahead Of Vijay Hazare Trophy

One of the most prestigious domestic tournaments of India, Vijay Hazare Trophy is all set to begin in September 2019. The first edition of this tournament marked its beginning in the year 2002-03 and because of its success, it has become as one of the most important domestic leagues in the history of Indian cricket. Also, this tournament is of utmost importance for national selection.

The tournament follows the round-robin format and later on has the playoffs. Some of the most successful teams of this tournament are Delhi, Mumbai, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
Mumbai are the defending champions while out of all the teams, Tamil Nadu is the one such side who has won the most trophies (5).

With just a few days left for the 2019-20 edition, Delhi have announced their list of probables for the tournament. The Delhi and District Cricket Association announced its 50-member squad which has some surprising names in it. Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan and Rishabh Pant have been included in the side which has surprised the cricket fans.

All the 3 players are regulars for the Indian team, with Virat Kohli being the captain in all 3 formats.  It would be exciting to see if these players will be available to play the tournament or not.  The DDCA stated that all the available players were requested to report at 8 AM on Wednesday, 4 September 2019 at Feroz Shah Kotla Ground in New Delhi. Head Coach KP Bhaskar was the in-charge of this process.

The history of Delhi as a domestic side has been great owing to the involvement of some top-class players. The Delhi side ended the 2018-19 Vijay Hazare Trophy as runners-up of the under the leadership of Rishabh Pant. Not only this, the side also won the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy played in the same calendar year.

It would be intriguing to see if the star-studded players such as Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan and Rishabh Pant would play this tournament as it would prove to be a huge boost for the domestic tournament.
