When Jasprit Bumrah broke into India set up, he was regarded as a T20 specialist. Since then the pacer has improved his game and become an integral part of the team in all three formats. The contributions of the fast bowler were given recognition yesterday, as the pacer won two awards in BCCI annual awards ceremony.
The 26-year-old won the Polly Umrigar award, for the BCCI men’s cricketer of the year(2018-19). The Mumbai Indians superstar also won the Dilip Sardesai award for taking most wickets in the year(2018-19). The bowler seemed very happy with the two awards as he uploaded his picture with trophies on social media.
Bumrah captioned the photograph with “Grateful and honored to be taking these two awards home tonight”. While Bumrah was happy with the awards, the happiness was not evident in the picture. The fast bowler seemed very serious in the picture, and legendary cricketer Yuvraj Singh also noticed that.
Yuvraj Singh is known for his sense of humor, and he did not miss the opportunity to joke about Bumrah’s serious look. The former all-rounder asked the fast bowler to smile and assured him that no one will try to snatch his trophies. In the same reply, he also congratulated the fast bowler for his achievement.
“Jassi has de Thoda no one’s taking your trophies away! Jokes apart many congratulations you truly deserve it (Jassi smile more, no one is taking your trophies away),” the Punjab cricketer wrote.
In 2019, Bumrah became the first Asian bowler to pick a five-wicket haul in South Africa, England, Australia, and West Indies. This achievement is a testament to Bumrah’s ability to adapt according to conditions. The fast bowler suffered a setback as it took him some time to recover from injury.
Jasprit Bumrah did well after returning from injury in the T20I series against Sri Lanka. Bumrah is very important for the Indian team, so the fans would hope Bumrah keeps fit and keeps performing in 2020.
