3 Batsmen Who Can Bat In Super Over For Chennai Super Kings

The 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League is all upon us as the cricket universe is getting ready for yet another exciting season of the world’s biggest T20 cricket carnival. This will be the 13th season of the IPL, and one of the most successful teams of the tournament, Chennai Super Kings will try to win its fourth IPL title. Having finished as the runners-up last year, CSK will look to improve their game in order to claim the champion’s position.

Speaking of champions, a team targeting to win the trophy should be ready by all the sides. Any situation could crop up at anytime thus, the champions need to stay ready. One of the major areas of the game is the Super Over. Once the original 20-overs match is tied then the match goes into the Super Over where the winner is decided by a one-over eliminator.

The batting team can pick 3 of its best batsmen to play the six balls while a loss of two wickets can end the Super Over automatically. So, if Chennai Super Kings find themselves in a Super Over situation, here are the 3 batsmen they can rest their hopes on.

Suresh Raina:

One of the most experienced players in T20 cricket, Suresh Raina has been a part of multiple close encounters. He played in the Super Over for CSK in the Champions League T20 besides, the left-handed batsman also featured in the Super Over match featuring Gujarat Lions. So, Raina can bat in the Super Over for Chennai if needed.

The all-rounder has what it takes to go after the bowler in the Super Over. He may have lost his place in the Indian T20I squad however, Raina has been a regular for CSK in the IPL. Expect him to be their number one pick in Super Overs.

MS Dhoni :

The team’s captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the best finisher of all time. He knows the art of pacing the innings well and also, he can regulate the speed of the match with his smart tactics. Dhoni is one of the few captains who prepared for the bowl out in T20 World Cup 2007. This shows that the right-handed batsman prefers to stay ready for any situation.

Since he can smack sixes right from the word go, Dhoni would be the best opening partner for Suresh Raina if there is a Super Over involving Chennai Super Kings. The left hand-right hand dynamic can further trouble the opposition bowler.

Shane Watson:

The back-up option for Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni will be the team’s most experienced foreign player, Shane Watson. The Australian all-rounder has played in almost all the T20 leagues of the world. He also batted for Rajasthan Royals in Super Over games. As he possesses a lot of experience, Watson can create difficulties for the opposition side.

The former Royal Challengers Bangalore player can turn the game in his side’s favor during the crunch situations. Watson could even be the team’s first pick in Super Over but, CSK should try to use him as a back-up to Dhoni and Raina.
