Twitterati Reacted After Someone Suggested BCCI That They Should Conduct IPL 2020 In Only One City

IPL 2020 has come under the scanner because of the rising Corona virus threat. BCCI has finally decided to postpone the tournament to 15th April as none of the overseas players will be able to reach the country because of visa issues. Besides, UK has imposed restrictions on its players meaning that if any player does not wish to play because of COVID-19 threats, he has every right to say no.

England called off its tour of Sri Lanka while India and South Africa’s ODI series was also called off. Besides, Australia and New Zealand are playing their ODI series behind closed doors as Cricket Australia has declined the audience from entering the stadiums and watching the matches live. In this situation, there was a proposal that just like the Australia vs New Zealand series, IPL should be held in closed stadiums i.e. it should only be a TV event.

This was considered as a feasible option because of the fact that BCCI earns a major part of its revenue from broadcast, advertising and other sources. Ticket sales was a small part of its income hence, it would have been ready to let go that instead of cancelling IPL 2020 entirely. A Twitter user named Yash Lahoti gave one more solution to this problem and advised BCCI on how the costs could be cut. He said that if all the matches are scheduled to play inside empty stadiums then why to organize matches in different cities.

All the matches can be held in the same city which would reduce travel expenses besides, there would be reduction in payment to State Associations for use of stadiums as well. He felt that Mumbai could be a perfect venue for this because the city has 3 stadiums.

Here is the tweet and here’s how the fans reacted.
