The Indian skipper Virat Kohli is one of the most destructive batsmen in the world and he is on his way to becoming one of the very successful skippers. In 2008, when Virat Kohli won the U-19 World Cup as the Indian captain, no one knew that he would go on to become the modern-day legend.

5. Only bowler to take a wicket on 0th ball of his T20 international career:

Virat Kohli is the only bowler in the world who had a wicket to his name without even bowling a ball technically in T20Is. Well, this happened in a T20I game in England in 2011. India had batted first and put on 170 runs on the board and England wasn’t quite keeping up to the required run rate for the first 7 overs.

MS Dhoni, who was the captain of the Indian cricket team at that time threw the ball to Virat Kohli to lure the England batsmen to try and play aggressive shots against the part-time bowler and team India can grab the wicket-taking opportunity in the process and this is exactly what happened and the victim became Kevin Pietersen.

Kevin Pietersen was at the crease and he looked to go after Kohli straightaway, but Kohli bowled it outside the leg stump. Virat Kohli had taken a wicket on the 0th ball of his T20 international career.

4. 973 runs in an IPL season:

Virat Kohli might have been unlucky for not being able to win the IPL trophy even after 13 seasons, however, he has been one of the most destructive batsmen even in this league. While every year he gives amazing performances with the bat, but the year 2016 has been an exceptional one for Kohli.

During that season, Virat Kohli’s expertise in the T20 format earned him the Man of the Tournament award in the ICC World T20 2016. With an outstanding average of 81.08, Virat scored 973 runs. Until today, no one has ever crossed the 900-run barrier until then.

3. Most centuries in ODI run-chase:

The Indian skipper has scored 43 ODI hundreds in his career so far and his hundreds have resulted in India’s victories on 36 occasions. That’s the maximum no. of hundreds that any batsman has ever scored for his team in a winning cause in 50-over cricket. Well, that’s not it, Virat has scored  26 centuries in ODIs while batting second. This is a world record under Virat’s name and second on that list is Indian maestro Sachin Tendulkar with 17 centuries in the second innings.

2. Fastest player to score 10,000 ODI runs:

Indian maestro Sachin Tendulkar was the fastest player to score 10,000 ODI runs. Sachin got there in only 259 innings. However, Virat Kohli had other plans. During the India-West Indies ODI match in Vizag in 2018, Virat Kohli surpassed 10,000 ODI runs in only 205th innings and became the fastest to get there.

Besides this, Virat Kohli is also the fastest to score 8000, 9000, and 11000 ODI runs. Today, Virat needs only 133 runs to in the next 60 innings to become the fastest ever to 12,000 runs.

1. 7 double centuries as captains in Tests:

It was after Virat Kohli took over the captaincy when he scored his first double ton in first-class cricket. Now, in 2020, Virat has seven double centuries, which is most by any Indian cricket team. Besides this, Virat Kohli also has a record of scoring the most number of double centuries as the skipper of any team. The previous record was held by Brian Lara with 5 double centuries.
