1. Team India’s Test series win against West Indies in 1971:
It happened at a time when winning on foreign soil was considered an achievement at that point in time. It was Team India’s first series win the West Indies, which was considered as the best team in the 70s and 80s. Indian team winning the series against the best team boosted the confidence of Team India that they could stand toe to toe with anyone in the world.
Indian batting legend Sunil Gavaskar made his debut in the 1971 away Test series against the West Indies and scored 774 runs in the four-match series. In a historic achievement, India won the series 1-0. Later to prove that it wasn’t a fluke, the Indian cricket team went on to win their away series in England.
2. India winning the 1983 World Cup:
One of the biggest moments in the history of Indian cricket. It was at a time when the Indian cricket team wasn’t considered one of the top ODI teams then but the 1983 World Cup changed how the world looked at team India.
During the final in the Lord’s, Kapil Dev led Indian team ook on the two-Time winners and the team which was regarded as the best team in the world — West Indies. India left the world in shock after they won the World Cup 1983, defeating the hat-trick winner West Indies.
3. India winning the Natwest Trophy against England, 2002:
At this point of time, Sourav Ganguly was leading the Indian cricket team. Under his leadership, team India became more aggressive and played with a purpose. Team India had dominated the tri-series before winning the Natwest Trophy final in 2002.
During the final match against England cricket team, India were asked to chase down an almost impossible target of 326 runs for a win. Mohammad Kaif and Yuvraj Singh took the matters into their hands and guided the team to an improbable run chase. What happened next is still etched to everyone’s mind – Sourav Ganguly taking ff his shirt and waving it in the balcony of the Lord’s dressing room.
4. India winning the inaugural T20 World Cup, 2007:
Team India gave a swash-buckling start to the T20 cricket by winning the title of T20 World Cup 2007. It was the tournament, where Mahendra Singh Dhoni was captaining Team India for the first time. A lot of iconic moments took place during this tournament, including Yuvraj Singh smashing Stuart Broad for six sixes in an over followed.
This iconic world cup winning the World Cup T20 tournament gave birth to the Indian Premier League, which has now become one of the best leagues in the world.
5. India winning the 50-Over World Cup, 2011:
There were a lot of interesting things that happened during the 2011 World Cup. It was the last world cup for Sachin Tendulkar, it was happening on the Indian soil, and team India were the favorites to win the World Cup.
Sachin Tendulkar gave a typical ‘Sachin Tendulkar’ performance, Gautam Gambhir and Yuvraj Singh won hearts with their heroics during the World Cup and MS Dhoni’s amazing captaincy and of course his winning sixer, helped team India won the world cup after 28 long years.
