Chennai Super Kings met Rajasthan Royals for their second match of the 13th edition of IPL. The first innings produced a wonderful display of batting with Sanju Samson and Steve Smith producing a magnificent effort from the bat. The run chase however didn’t delight a large section of fans and pundits. The famous cricket analyst Harsha Bhogle in particular was not happy with the way Chennai batted in the second innings.
The former IPL commentator was surprised at the way Chennai batted. He exclaimed that hitting sixes wasn’t tough on the wicket and it was clearly visible after several CSK’s batsmen including MS Dhoni easily dispatched the ball out of the park at will. However, he slammed the batting performances by them and stated that for a major part of the CSK’s innings they were lagging behind. He said, “For a major part of that chase, it wasn’t a chase. It was just second innings”.
“I Couldn’t Figure that Run Chase”- Harsha Bhogle fails to make sense of CSK’s innings
Harsha Bhogle complained that Chennai’s squad “went back in” after giving slimmer of hopes in small parts of the game. He further said, “I couldn’t figure out that run chase.” Chennai Super Kings lost the game by 16 runs and could muster only 200 at the loss of six wickets in their assigned overs. Even though the score does not look that bad on a reading, Chennai was never in contention of a win against the Jaipur based franchise on a comparative easier to bat Sharjah wicket. Harsha Bhogle gave testimony to the fact and said that Chennai was never in the game even though the scorecard looks much closer than the real match.
The Chennai skipper MS Dhoni was also criticized for coming way too down the order to bat in a game which could have produced a different result had he batted at number 4.
