Shame Warne Wants Sourav Ganguly To Change This Rule In The IPL: Over the years, the shortest format of cricket has evolved a lot. The T20 format of the game has become one of the most loved formats of the game. We have witnessed many nail-biting and thrilling performances. However, the format has always been criticized for being beneficial only for batters.
Recently, former Australian spinner, Shane Warne has come up with a new suggestion for T20 cricket, where he wants each bowler to be able to bowl a maximum of 5 overs.
Not just this, Shane Warne expressed that this idea of him could be first tried in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Talking to SkySports, Shane Warne suggested that every bowler should be given 5 overs to bowl. He said:
“What about four bowlers bowl five overs? I just think it’ll make for a better contest between bat and ball. You want your best bowlers bowling as much as you can as T20 is so much in the batsmen’s favour,”
“When you get a couple of gun bowlers like this [Archer and Wood] you want to give them another over up front,”
For the unversed, as per the current rules, a bowler in T20 cricket is allowed only to bowl a maximum of four overs. But there are any restrictions on the number of bowlers used during an innings. He said:
“Wouldn’t it be nice to give them five? You can obviously have eight bowlers bowl whatever but I would like to see bowlers be able to bowl five. [Adil] Rashid could bowl five overs in the middle which would be a really good battle for the batsmen against spin, while you can bowl your quicks at the beginning and at the end,” Warne said.
“I reckon it gets rid of the bits-and-pieces and you can pick your best batsmen and best bowlers when selecting your team,” he added.
Later, he also took to his twitter and tagged BCCI and Sourav Ganguly expressing his delight over the response he got on his suggestion. He wrote:
“Getting a lot of great reply’s to my suggestion re a maximum of 5 overs per bowler in T/20 cricket ! Let’s make it happen ASAP @ICC ! Maybe we could try it in the @IPL starting on Sept 19 @SGanguly99 ?”
