MS Dhoni and Chennai Super Kings might be struggling in this season’s IPL, but we can’t forget that MS Dhoni is an IPL great. People often talk about his captaincy and how he has led the CSK side to the IPL title on three occasions, but his batting is as important as his captaincy.
His ability to finish off games in pressure situations is something that many people can’t pull off. MS Dhoni is the boss when it comes to chasing and so the opposition teams want his wicket as early as possible. Most of the bowlers have no idea as to how do you get this guy out but there are a few bowlers who have dismissed him more than once. So, let’s have a look at five bowlers who have dismissed MS Dhoni most times in the history of the IPL
Shane Watson – 3 times
Shane Watson who plays for Chennai Super Kings over the last three years has dismissed his current skipper three times in the history of the IPL. Shane Watson is currently playing as a pure batsman, but he has been a terrific all-rounder in the shortest format.
He was a good bowler who used to pick up wickets at crucial stages of the game. He has got him bowled once and caught twice in IPL. He would be happy that he could get the wicket of one of the finest finishers the game has ever seen.
Kieron Pollard – 3 times
The Mumbai Indians batsman who bowls a bit – Kieron Pollard too has dismissed the mighty MS Dhoni on three occasions. In the last 2-3 years, we hadn’t seen Pollard bowl, but he has started bowling for MI in this season. Earlier he used to bowl regularly and was a handy bowler.
He bowls the cutters which stick in the wicket and never come on to the bat. He doesn’t give any pace to work with to the batsman. All the three times he has got his man caught which is apt because Dhoni would have got out while trying to clear the boundary and the lack of pace might have deceived him.
Jasprit Bumrah – 3 times
Jasprit Bumrah who is India’s finest death bowler has troubled MS Dhoni for a long time. He first dismissed him in a Vijay Hazare Trophy game when he rattled his stumps. In the IPL as well, Dhoni has struggled against Jasprit Bumrah.
Just like Shane Watson and Kieron Pollard, Bumrah has dismissed him thrice in the IPL. Every time Dhoni comes out to bat, Rohit gets back Bumrah for an over or two. Bumrah dismissed Dhoni in the 2017 IPL Final which MI won against RPS by just one run. The wicket of Dhoni was a turning point in that game.
MI will play CSK one more time in this IPL so it will be interesting to see the battle between these two.
Pragyan Ojha – 6 times
The left-arm orthodox spinner has dismissed MS Dhoni on quite a few occasions. He has got rid of the former Indian captain six times in the history of the IPL. Dhoni has had his problems with spin, especially at the start of the innings. He tends to start off slow as he struggles to rotate the strike.
Ojha might have exploited this weakness as he got him bowled, caught, and stumped. Ojha doesn’t play in the IPL anymore but it is always a good battle when MS Dhoni is up against a left-arm spinner.
Zaheer Khan – 7 times
MS Dhoni might be relieved that he doesn’t have to face Zaheer Khan at the international level because he has dismissed him the most number of times in the IPL. The left-arm pacer from Mumbai got him seven times in the IPL.
On most of the occasions, Dhoni has got out in the end overs while trying to hit big shots. But you must give credit to Zaheer Khan who has executed the right line and length to get him dismissed. Zaheer Khan can easily say that he had his wood on the CSK skipper.
