Free Hits: IPL 2020 is currently underway in the United Arab Emirates, with the Royal Challengers Bangalore, the Delhi Capitals, and the Mumbai Indians dominating the other teams. These three franchises have almost sealed their spot in the Top 4. For the last playoff place, there is a five-way battle going on between the Sunrisers Hyderabad, the Chennai Super Kings, the Rajasthan Royals, the Kings XI Punjab, and the Kolkata Knight Riders.
T20 cricket is considered a game of small margins. Sometimes, a spectacular save on the boundary line can prove to be a massive difference-maker just like a no-ball. In this IPL, there have been very few no-balls bowled, but still, the disadvantage of bowling an illegal delivery is that the opponent gets a free hit because of that reason, meaning that even if they lose their wicket on two successive deliveries, they would stay in the middle.
Here are the five teams who have conceded the most number of free hits to their opponents in IPL 2020.
Sunrisers Hyderabad – 5
The Sunrisers Hyderabad have been very inconsistent in IPL 2020. On one day it seems like their team is much balanced now, and on the other, the fans can point out many weak points in the franchise. The IPL 2016 champions are certainly not having the best season, but the thing that has been good for them so far in IPL 2020 is the number of free hits they have conceded.
The SRH bowlers have only bowled five no-balls in the Dream11 IPL, handing five free opportunities to the opponents.
Royal Challengers Bangalore – 6
The Royal Challengers Bangalore are in the upper half of the points table at the moment. One of the main reasons behind their success has been the top form of their bowlers. The trio of Isuru Udana, Navdeep Saini, and Yuzvendra Chahal has done a magnificent job, while Washington Sundar has also been fantastic in the powerplay overs.
However, the RCB bowlers have not been that perfect as they have bowled six illegal deliveries in the IPL 2020 by overstepping or by bowling beamers. Still, this number is less as compared to the other teams.
Chennai Super Kings – 6
The Chennai Super Kings find themselves in an uncomfortable situation on the standings with just six points to their name in ten matches. Even if they win their next four matches, they can only reach 14 points now, which might not be enough to give them a place in the Top 4. CSK’s batting has not been up to the mark in IPL 2020.
Their bowlers have also bowled six no-balls so far, giving away some free hits to the opposition batters.
Delhi Capitals – 7
Delhi Capitals have been the best team of IPL 2020 so far. They have won seven of their ten matches and are at the top of the table with 14 points. The Capitals are just one step away from sealing their playoffs berth, and looking at their recent form, the fans expect them to cement their place sooner rather than later.
The DC bowlers have bowled in a disciplined manner so far in IPL 2020. In 10 matches, they have only bowled seven no balls.
Rajasthan Royals – 11
The team that has conceded the maximum free hits in IPL 2020 is the Rajasthan Royals. The Steve Smith-led outfit have won only four games in ten outings so far. They still have a chance to sneak into the Top 4, which is why the team management will be keen to ensure that the bowlers improve their bowling in the next four games.
