Ahead of the ongoing match between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders, fans were left stunned after Dinesh Karthik stepped down from the captaincy. While stepping down from the captaincy, Dinesh Karthik, who was appointed captain of KKR ahead of the 2018 season of the IPL,  had stated that he wants to focus on his batting.

Dinesh Karthik has informed the KKR management that with a view to focusing on his batting and contributing more to the team’s cause, he wished to handover the captaincy to Eoin Morgan,” KKR said in a statement.

Venky Mysore, CEO of the franchise thanked DK for his efforts as the skipper of his team. He said:

We are also fortunate that Eoin Morgan, the 2019 World Cup-winning captain, who has been the vice-captain, is willing to lead the side going forward. DK and Eoin have worked brilliantly together during this tournament and although Eoin takes over as captain, this is effectively a role swap and we expect that this transition will work in a seamless manner.”

He added:

“We are fortunate to have leaders such as DK, who has always put the team first. It takes a lot of courage for someone like him to take a decision such as this. While we were surprised by his decision, we are respectful of his wishes,”

Meanwhile, in the ongoing match against Mumbai Indians, ever was looking forward to the very first outing of Dinesh Karthik as a non-captain against Mumbai Indians. However, the fans are left disappointed and heartbroken.

Well, in the ongoing match against Mumbai Indians, Dinesh Karthik, who normally is accustomed to the finisher’s role, walked out to bat number 4 and the move backfired on the team as Dinesh Karthik was dismissed by Rahul Chahar for an underwhelming 8-ball 4.

The rest of the top order also failed to set their feet on the ground and were dismissed in quick successions.

Meanwhile, social media was flooded with reactions from Twitterati on this. Twitterati just can’t stop trolling Dinesh Karthik for his performance, especially after his decision. However, there are many who are supporting DK.

Former Indian cricketer and former skipper of KKR, Gautam Gambhir also took to his tweet and posted a cryptic tweet Though, had not tagged anyone or said it in response to any other tweet, the most obvious reference, was the change in KKR captaincy.
