IPL 2020: Aakash Chopra takes indirect dig at MS Dhoni’s ‘spark’ comment

MS Dhoni

Former Indian cricketer and cricketing expert Aakash Chopra indirectly took a jab at MS Dhoni by tweeting in praise of Chennai Super Kings opener Ruturaj Gaikwad. Gaikwad played an impressive innings against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, scoring a half-century and ensuring that CSK beat Royal Challengers Bangalore comprehensively.

Aakash Chopra took to Twitter to express his delight and tweeted:

“Two sixes. One against Sundar. And one against Moeen. Nimble footwork. Inside out almost. Ruturaj Gaekwad has shown some spark.”

MS Dhoni’s ‘spark’ comment

CSK skipper MS Dhoni had said in the post-match presentation after the loss against the Delhi Capitals that the reason that they are not giving chances to the young players in the squad was because no one showed enough promise and spark to challenge the ones in the playing XI. This comment did not go down well as many in the cricketing fraternity and many including Aakash Chopra questioned this comment made by MS Dhoni.

However, Gaikwad was given chances after that game and although he failed against the Mumbai Indians, he made sure that he made the innings against RCB count, scoring an unbeaten 65 and helping CSK beat RCB by 8 wickets. He repaid the faith shown in him by the captain MS Dhoni and the team management. This showed that on any given day, any team has the potential to beat any other team irrespective of the position that they are on the points table.

MS Dhoni had mentioned after the game against the Mumbai Indians that he will be giving chances to the players that have not featured so far and rightly so Mitchell Santner and Monu Kumar too got chances. Santner bowled well and helped CSK keep things tight. Looking at the future, CSK will be earmarking players that they think will form a successful core of their team. Certainly today, Gaikwad has shown MS Dhoni that he does have a lot of spark.
