Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma was extremely happy with the performance of his team after his side beat Sunrisers Hyderabad comprehensively by 34 runs at Sharjah. Batting first, MI were able to post just about a par score of 208, given the small dimensions of the stadium. However, Rohit felt that it was a great effort by MI to score a total in excess of 200 because he felt the pitch was a bit on the slower side.
Quinton de Kock finally showed some form as he hit a brilliant half-century. Cameos from Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard and most importantly a 4-ball 20 from Krunal Pandya really set up the momentum for MI going into the second innings.
“The wicket looked good but it was slightly on the slower side so getting past 200 was a great effort. We didn’t have any total in mind. We back our bowlers to do the job. And that’s what they did. I definitely missed out, but again you try your best whenever you have the opportunity. Great effort from the boys to put those runs on the board,” Rohit Sharma said after the game.
It’s always nice to have bowlers who give me their plan: Rohit Sharma
Totals in excess of 220 have been chased at Sharjah this IPL and thus it was important for MI bowlers to bowl well and take wickets at regular intervals. Jasprit Bumrah, James Pattinson and Trent Boult all took two wickets each and provided breakthroughs at crucial moments, not letting SRH get away with the game. Rohit Sharma was happy with the way his bowlers performed and especially pointed out their ability to tell him their own plans instead of just listening to his plans.
“You come with bowling plans. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, but you have to bowl the best delivery at the time. I don’t try to impose my plans on them. I want them to give me their plan, and then I set the field. It is always nice to have bowlers who do that,” Rohit Sharma said.
