IPL 2020 Mid-season Transfer: Kolkata Knightriders is still to find a proper batting order with which they can impose a serious challenge on their counterparts. Despite isolated showdowns of brilliance that has so far helped them to cross the finishing line in three occasions out of five games, it hasn’t been a rock-solid display and the fans really aren’t happy to see their favorite teams barely scraping victories, unlike last time.
One of their major challenges has been the opening position. After repeatedly failing with the experiment of Sunil Narine as an opener, Brendon Mc Cullum shifted his allegiance to a young Rahul Tripathi who bore fruit in his opening with a crackling 81 off just 51 deliveries that helped Kolkata reach a formidable total.
Now they have been struck by a weird conundrum in the form of Tom Banton. He is an exciting wicket-keeping batsman who has already validated his mettle in Big Bash League. He is a dynamic hitter of the ball who is the exact form of opener that you would love to have in your team for that powerplay blitzkrieg.
However, it seems that Kolkata has already cemented their foreigners with Pat Cummins, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, and Eoin Morgan. Everyone has contributed in their way so far and that has more or less pleased the management. Morgan has played a few crucial knocks in the middle order while Narine has shined with the ball in the hand.
Cummins have been excellent since the first game with the ball and has even played a couple of batting cameos that have come in handy until now. Andre Russell failed to contribute with the bat but he has done a decent job with the ball, especially of bowling economical overs in the death.
Now with these four players almost fixed in the line-up, it is hard for another foreigner to make an infringement to the starting line-up. This means that Tom Banton will have to warm the bench for quite a good deal of time before making headway in the team.
However, with the IPL 2020 Mid-season Transfer window peeking itself, there may be an outward chance of him being swooped by other teams, considering the amount of promise he brings along with himself with the bat in the hand and even with the gloves on.
We will look at three teams who can hire him for their requirements, making good use of their mid-transfer window.
Hyderabad has so far struggled due to a lack of strength in their batting order. Warner and Bairstow have tried cementing the loopholes as much as they could, however, it really hasn’t been up to the mark that a team would expect of the duo. One of the major concerns of Hyderabad has been the mellowing down of Warner.
Despite the Australian opener been in runs, he has failed to show the same aggression that one expects of him. One of the primary causes for the same is the lack of depth in the middle order. He hasn’t batted freely until now and his overt precautions have chained him inadvertently.
Buying Banton will allow him the leeway to bat freely. In the case of Banton coming to the squad in the IPL 2020 Mid-season Transfer, this will stake Kane Williamson’s presence in the starting eleven, considering the availability of three attacking batsmen in the squad. Banton and Warner will be able to open while Bairstow can come out at number three and take the aggression further.
This will give Hyderabad much more freedom to score freely at the top of the innings and a bigger score for their bowlers to defend. Their bowlers until now have done a commendable job but the lack of score on the cards has been persistently drowning them in the long run.
Right since their departure from Sharjah, Royals is still to register their first victory. Their top order has failed miserably until now with Steven Smith failing to pile up runs at all. Also, it seems that their hitting power has been completely drained with Jos Buttler proving the solitary shaft of hope for them.
This is exactly where Tom Banton can come in handy for the side. Their opening pair has so far been unsuccessful and the arrival of the English wicket-keeping batsman will guarantee more belligerence on the start and considering the youngster’s ability to deal with pace and swing with consummate ease, he will be a crucial choice for the UAE pitches where bowlers have so far made merry.
Putting Banton in the lineup in the IPL 2020 Mid-season Transfer means that they will have to ax either Steven Smith himself or the all-rounder, Tom Curran. Curran has been decent so far, however, he has been far from extraordinary that can win games for Rajasthan. Now with the arrival of Ben Stokes, Tom Curran can definitely be on the list of expendables, considering the fact that Stokes is one of the most phenomenal names in the shorter versions of the game.
If they are introducing Banton to the line-up, this would mean, Buttler, Banton, Stokes, and Archer for their quota of foreign players. Given the fact that they have been suffering severely from the lack of leadership, it would be ideal to see them make a few changes hither and yon.
IPL 2020 Mid-season Transfer: Kings XI Punjab
Punjab has struggled the most amongst others as they are still rooted in the rock-bottom of the table with just a solitary victory from their five matches until now. With Chris Gayle still to make an appearance, the management is clearly running short of options to push for that big score as Rahul has slowed down considerably.
Their fourth foreigner has always been of a questionable stature with Chris Jordan repeatedly getting smashed while Glenn Maxwell is yet to come out on top, doing necessary amends. Nicholas Pooran has been hot and cold, and Sheldon Cottrell has been the sole glimmer of consistency.
The inclusion of Tom Banton through the IPL 2020 Mid-season Transfer, will provide them with the much-needed power in the opening stand that can set things right with a good score on the cards for the bowlers to defend.
