Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni revealed the reason behind leaving out former South African leg-spinner Imran Tahir of the playing XI. During the toss before the game between CSK and the Sunrisers Hyderabad, MS Dhoni stated that they were thinking of playing Tahir, but the team combination did not allow them to take that decision. MS Dhoni’s CSK dropped Jagadeesan and brought Piyush Chawla as an extra bowling option.
“One change – Chawla in for Jagadeesan. We thought about him (Tahir) but the combination isn’t letting us,” MS Dhoni said at the toss.
MS Dhoni had no option but to leave out Imran Tahir because of team composition
According to the rules laid down by the IPL Governing Council, a team can only field four foreigners in their playing XI. CSK had an emphatic win by ten wickets against the Kings XI Punjab due to some brilliant batting by openers Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis, making them undroppable from the side.
Sam Curran has been a fantastic addition to the CSK side. He can be used as a floater at the top of the order as he was used against SRH and he delivers crucial quick runs. He also bowls with the new ball and makes it swing and has a knack of picking up wickets at regular intervals.
The addition of Dwayne Bravo to the CSK side has given it a different balance altogether. Not only can they now play with an extra batsman or bowler depending on the situation, but Bravo’s experience at the death has also solved their issues in the death overs.
With these four foreigners giving the right kind of balance to CSK and with the likes of Karn Sharma and Piyush Chawla present as Indian leg-spinning options, MS Dhoni believes that it is looking increasingly difficult for Imran Tahir to get a look-in into the playing XI. However, last year’s purple cap winner with 26 wickets is hopeful that if he gets a chance, he will surely try to give his best for the franchise.
