IPL 2020: Ravichandran Ashwin injury update

Ravichandran Ashwin

The Delhi Capitals kicked off their IPL 2020 campaign with a thrilling victory over the Kings XI Punjab in a Super Over. The Shreyas Iyer-led franchise could not post a grand total on the board, but a fine performance from the bowlers ensured that the Capitals did not lose their tournament opener. Ravichandran Ashwin, who was making his debut for the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020, bowled a magical over where he picked up two wickets and conceded meager two runs.

Unfortunately, the Tamil Nadu-based all-rounder picked up a shoulder injury during the match. He could not bowl a single over after that. Besides, he also missed the Delhi Capitals’ next two matches in IPL 2020. The Capitals will lock horns with the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium tonight, and there is only one question in the minds of DC fans – Will Ravichandran Ashwin be fit to play this match?

The main reason behind this thought is that the Capitals lost their previous game to the Sunrisers Hyderabad. The pitch in Sharjah has assisted the batsmen as they have had the best nights of their life batting at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in IPL 2020. With the likes of Andre Russell, Nitish Rana, Shubman Gill, and Eoin Morgan present in the KKR lineup, DC would need an experienced player like R Ashwin in their match squad.

Delhi Capitals’ bowling coach Ryan Harris in an interview with the franchise that Ashwin was doing excellent in the practice sessions. He believed that the off-spinner might be available for selection. However, he also added that the medical team will make the final decision on this situation. If Ashwin clears the fitness test ahead of the match between KKR and DC, he should well return to the playing XI in Sharjah. If he cannot recover, he will miss only one more match at the most.
