IPL 2020: Shane Warne gives an update on Ben Stokes’ availability this season

Shane Warne gave an update on Ben Stokes

Former Rajasthan Royals skipper Shane Warne gave an update on Ben Stokes’ availability for the IPL 2020 season. He stated that Stokes was still there with his family in New Zealand to support his father who has been diagnosed with brain cancer. However, he expects Stokes to join the RR squad soon and believes that his addition will be a huge boost for the Royals.

Ben Stokes was the Most Valuable Player in the IPL 2017 edition and will prove to be a very important player for the Royals. Their defeat against KKR exposed their lack of depth and experience in the middle-order. Stokes’ addition to the eleven will fill that void in the middle-order and will make the team look more balanced.

“Hopefully, Ben Stokes would play a part this year, he’s a big loss and our thoughts are with him, but you know, add Ben to the team that played the other night and it looks a very, very good side,” Shane Warne told PTI

I personally like Steve Smith at the top of the order: Shane Warne

RR skipper Steve Smith has had a mixed bag so far in his IPL 2020 season. Opening the batting, he scored back to back half-centuries in the first two games and was crucial in his team winning both the games. But in their third game against KKR, Smith tried to slog everything and in the end was dismissed for just 3 runs. While RR may think about a change in the batting order as Smith’s wicket would expose the inexperienced middle-order, Warne believes that Smith at the top of the order is a really good move. This is because he believes that the best players in a team must get to face the most number of deliveries.

“I liked it, him (Smith) coming to open the innings,” said Warne. “I am always a big believer in your best player having the opportunity to face the most amount of deliveries, so for me you know Jos Buttler, Steve Smith and Sanju are one, two and three, respectively,” Shane Warne said.

“Steve Smith and Andrew McDonald might have different ideas but I would always want my best players facing the maximum number of balls. We’ve got so many good players who could play so many different roles, but I personally like Steve Smith at the top,” he further added.
